JUNE 2009 - Carmem Miranda’s 100th Birthday
On February 9th 2009, the world celebrated what would have been Carmem Miranda’s 100th birthday. The image that she left behind, with the tropical costumes, the effervescent sense of fun she conveyed in all her films and the memory of her open and mischievous smile which shone out of all her photographs, actually show a singer and actress who would be adding one more year to her eternal youth. The ‘Pequena Notável’ or the Memorable Little One as she was also known, was weither born nor died in Brazil, although few other have had their personality so linked to the symbol of the nation.

During the 40s she was already a world-renowned star, taking her charisma from radio stages like the Urca Cassino to the sets of Hollywood, where she made 14 movies. During her career, she accumulated a vast assortment of objects, which many collectors throughout Brazil covet. However, a large part of this collection can already be found at the Carmem Miranda Museum in Flamengo. The guided tours offer a chronological and thematic glimps of the entertainer, though figurines, pictures, posters and a collection of her personal objects.
